Proposed Name Change - Parents & Friends Federation of WA
The Parents and Friends Federation of WA (PFFWA) have for the last year been going through the processes required to change the name from the Parents and Friends Federation of WA to Catholic School Parents Western Australia (CSPWA). Correspondence notifying parents and parent organisations of the intent to change the name was forwarded to all schools on 19th September 2017 seeking comment.
The consensus at the September 2017 Council meeting was that the new name needs to include the word “Catholic” as this gives a clear statement about PFFWA’s representation of Catholic school parents in the context of the overall education system. Continuing to identify “parents” as the main audience is also important. The work of PFFWA extends far beyond supporting P&F’s/Parent Groups – it benefits ALL parents in the Catholic school system whether they realise it or not. The name Catholic School Parents Western Australia will provide a clearer statement about who we are and who we represent to anyone who sees the name.
Part of the process to change the name included the request for approval from Archbishop of Perth The Most Reverend Timothy Costelloe SDB DD to use the word “Catholic” in the new name. We are very pleased to say this has now been approved.
The next part of the process is regarding the PFFWA constitution, wherein it states that we must provide at least three months notice to our members before making alterations by Special Resolution at a General Meeting.
To that end PFFWA will call a General Meeting to take place on 21st February 2019. This will take place at the start of our annual Parent Group Induction evening to be held at St Peter’s Catholic Primary School, 103 Wood Street, Inglewood WA 6932. The General Meeting will occur between 6.30pm and 6.45pm.
